Button cleaning

This is my first ever button I have found. I am not sure the best way to clean it, or to even clean it further. So far I’ve ran it under water and brushed with a tooth brush gently. It’s a WWI button 1902-1920.

I found one of those and found when I cleaned it it was very thin. I wouldn't push your luck too much further. A little patina makes finds look the best. Mine ended up with holes in the face 😕
