found this nail. cleaned off very thick coating of rust with brass brush.

It was found in an area where I found two other civil war relics, a flat button and carved bullet.

I can tell the point of the nail was hammered flat. Just wonder why small nail would have such a large head.

any ideas anyone?

oops, got sidetracked by demanding 5 year old grandson. Wanted me to print out some more Sonic Hedgehog coloring book pages so he could color them.

Here's some CW nails and hut spikes I've preserved. Yours looks more like the colonial Rose head, but a better pic of the head and confirming the spike is square would nail it down.

the nail is about 2 1/8 in long and head is a hair over 5/8" in diameter.
