Was checking out a forested hill behind my friends property and discovered a ton of bricks, old square nails, cast iron pieces, which hints at an old homesite. I went down the hill a bit and uncovered what appeared to be a regular knife. Turns out, its a WWI mess army knife by L.F.& C in 1917! The owner even etched in "1st Battalion Headquarters" in the handle!

Cool, I have a ww1 spoon but the war collecter here didn't want it because it's not silver and not in great condition.
Congrats on your cool knife!đź‘Ť

that is a great find. is the handle made of silver or aluminum or what?

Looks stamped not engraved. Maybe property of the 1st bn mess.

I ran into a retired soldier three weeks ago. He spent 9 years in the Army as a chef and mainly baked cakes and created ice sculptures for the the officer's mess.

Hmmm, the officers ate better than I thought. They always told us they ate the same food as the enlisted guys. But they never let us into their mess to verify such claims. Actually the Armyk's enlisted men's mess was not really that bad in my opinion.
