Hello ,
A month ago I found this metal piece at a path in England. I wonder what could it have been.
It was a almost surface find.Any ideas are welcome. Thanks

Perhaps it was mounted to the top or front of a box and was one half for locking the lid?
The padlock would go though it and another similar piece on the top

Thanks matmit, this was one of my first thoughts as well.The other possibility I considered it was part of a clock mechanism ?
I have a photo from the other side, but I can not upload it
because too large in gb.I asked my daughter to rezise it

Looks like a drawer pull escutcheon...yours looks broken in half.

Thank you - I guess you nailed it.
It must have been from a very old piece
of furniture .
