really old coin or ?

This was found at a old section of Los Angeles that was once a Spanish land grant. It has writing on both sides but very hard to see. It came up 25 on my Equinox. Thanks

Those are coins from some Islamic kingdom, and it is an old script. I don't have my book handy, but they date to sometime in the middle ages. Probably silver, it looks to me. Spain was occupied by an Islamic empire for a time, and I don't know how long their silver stayed in circulation.
