I dug this ornate brass object not far behind the house in the woods by a field.
I estimate the dump area at turn of the century judging by the amount of ceramic and brass buttons. Area littered with broken blob top bottles.
It resembles an electrical outlet cover with the single screw hole.
One door opens to a tray though.
The other opens to an open square hole. The brass hinges are a little bent on that side which is why i didn't open it for a pic. They look like they are ready to break off so i leave it be.
It has great patina.
I didn't know what to do with it so a put it over a doorbell wire that has been pigtailed by my front door for 13 years.
Anyone have any idea of what it is or approximate age?
