It has been a long time since a have got to go relic hunting. I had a vacation day I had to take so I took it to go detecting. Hunted this spot for a little over a hour and it’s going to be a good one. I detected a lot before I found this spot. I walked for over two miles to get here. That is why only I only detected this spot for a short time. I found a Prussian 69 caliper and several round balls and a Minnie and a enfield. Also found a button with R. Jackson and Ind on it. I need help with if on it and the long lead piece. Also found a bunch of melted lead which is always a good sign. I also need a I’d on the bullet that has been modified with a square hole. More pictures on second post.

Does anyone know what the lead Minnie with the square hole could have been made into? Or the long lead piece?

Great spot you found. I would hike that two miles. Without giving location, how did you find that spot. By accident, a tip from someone, research?

Spots like those are hard to find these days especially in metro Atlanta Civil War sites that you can still hunt legally.

Wow, that's one heck of a new spot.
I'd probably be calling off work and gridding meticulously
Congrats on the old lead and beautiful button! I'll be interested to see what else you pull from here.

Research and it’s close to a spot I have already been detecting.

I figured out what the square hole is for in the bullet. It’s for removing the nipple on the gun I believe

I had been looking for this Civil War spot for 2 years. Where a Confederate field hospital was located. One day stopped to talk to an older guy and the subject came up. He said, well guess what? You are twelve feet from what you are looking for. Down is a slight ravine and creek among the bamboo he said was the locations. I never would have found it on my own.

I have found out that the Georgia historical markers are rarely even close in their true locations. They seem to put them where most people can see them from a car.

Makes sense, but the directions on the marker are often way off because these markers are often moved for various reasons.

I knew almost exactly where this spot was but never had access. I detect really close to this spot all the time. I have a map I have made of places I have found a lot of civil war relics at close to this camp. My map is over a half mile. Meaning I am finding a lot of relics a little over half mile in both all directions. People always think they have to hunt right where the camp was. But if the camp was used for a month or two then soldiers would have drills and sometimes hundreds or thousands Ben thousands of troops would stay there for days or weeks at a time. I learned to hunt a long way away from camps one time by a farmer. He asked me to look for a hitch pin with my metal detector and it was about a 1000 yards from where I was detecting and others detected. Well I’m about two minutes I was digging bullets after bullets. No way would I have ever detected where the hitch pin had been lost. I ended up finding a small camp site e few hundred yards further behind where the hitch pin was. Always think outside of the box.

Nice variety of relics, don't let those Eagle buttons throw you off, definitely Rebs in the area, in fact could have worn those buttons. 69 Prussian is hard to find, nice !! Brass bullet casing appears to be a period Smith & Wesson as well. Yep, nipple protector. The 4 hole trouser/utility button, from my experience of finding these, often they have the store name & location on them, so you might research stores from Jackson Ind, or R. Jackson store from Ind. The button does appear to be period and very well could have been lost by an Indiana boy. I recently found one out of Ga where some Ga troops were positioned. All around some great finds, well done.

Thanks for the info. I will do some more researching.
