I found this army button last weekend near my home. From what I have read it could date back to 1902 until present. Brass buttons are for dress and black buttons are for field. If anyone can add to what I know it would be appriciated!

Great Seal button. 1902-present. They were black or gilt from 1910-1917, black only from 1917-1923, and gilt only thereafter

Helpful to know if the back is rusted or has any markings. I believe if the shank or back is totally rusted, or sticks to a magnet, then it would not be military. They did not use steel/iron in their buttons.(I think) So...any markings?

I will check to see if it is magnetic or not. It still needs to be cleaned. The back is packed solid but I can see the shank.
