The 2 areas marked on this map I have permission to hunt.the green area is the main battlefield (off limits). This 80 acres is on the union advance line of march. How would you go about hunting this? I'm thinking maybe dropped bullets and overshots since no fighting actually occurred here. Worth my time?....about 12,000 union troops were involved.

Anywhere there was 12000 troops is worth the time. I never have a set way I detect. But I usually grid hunt. And try not to miss any spots.

First. Go to the closest drinking water source near the area where the 12,000 troops were located and any water sources along the line of march. Thousands of troops and their associated animals were always on the lookout for potable water. Once you detect up and down those creek banks, then detect the logical footpaths from the camping areas to the sources of water.

The battlefields are not always contained by battlefield maps made years after the actual battle. Just hunt the living heck out of your permissions. That will tell you all you need to know.
