I really envy you guys who live in the NE (in regard to metal detecting). So much history, so many people and so much lost stuff!!! Congrats on that old copper!

Is it a chain cent, can we see the back............ looks like it will clean up nice . Great find, really nice coin.

Holy Cow!!! That's a beauty of a coin. Your making it really hard for me to take today off from detecting. Congratulations!

My goodness it looks like you have hit the jackpot! I would not do anything to the coin before I took it to a coin shop for expert evaluation. A big congrats on the rare find!

Can we see the back and give us the story please, was this a field site, old farm etc.....? Great find!!

Hi everyone thanks for all the congratulations.
here are some more photos. I wish there was more to it more to it in short this is a field that I have detected many many times over the years and I have came away with a lot of great coins buttons etc including some British coins and another 1790s large cent but nothing of this caliber of course the reason it has been producing so well is that it was turned over to plant corn while for many years now it has just been hay so I had pretty much depleted the field until there was hardly anything left.
please forgive any grammar mistakes I'm doing voice recognition from my phone
o as far as depth goes it was only 3 inches deeper so I had just recorded myself picking up a large sent a few minutes before and didn't feel like taking out my camera and my tripod again so unfortunately I missed this recovery although it was not that dramatic since it was just loose soil in a field and the coin just popped right out in the first shovel fall of dirt

Congrats on the great find! You might try to figure out the variety. Some of the varieties are insanely rare!
