I'm hoping there is someone on the forum who may help to identify this piece. It was found on an East coast Florida beach, today. It's unlike anything I've ever seen. I don't even know what kind of metal it is. I do not want to clean it to get a better look at the design. Let me know what you think. Thanks I found an image of a coin that matches it. It's described as a 1454 sg coin 2f. Not sure what it is.

to me, it looks like a copy of a Spanish COB. These are found by members here around beaches all of the time; i also have real ones and fake ones. The giveaways to me: color/metal type (should be silver or gold), and the details have a bubbly look from being copied from some kind of original design.

If you take a pick and clean some of the crust off you should find a "copy" hidden in the design someplace.

Thanks. You could be right. The metal just doesn't look quite right. I've pulled plenty of silver coins out of the water and they didn't look like this.

Lima Peru 8 Escudos (replica, probably)

Your obverse is almost exactly upside down. Still not sure about the reverse. The date is on the obverse, but I can only make out the 7 at the end. They were minted between 1710 and 1746 from what I can tell.

I suspected it probably was a replica. I know it's not gold. It's black but it could be silver plated. I just have to keep on looking for the real one. Thanks for the input.
