I think the stones are granite. They each weigh about 62 grams a piece.

I'd guess that it's a trivet to set hot pans or hot dishes on.

Wow. Thank you FoiledAgain. I would have never thought of that. I think that may be it.
I think those are whiskey stones that you put into the freezer and use to cool drinks (often alcoholic) without diluting them with melting ice.

It look to be the 1-1/8" granite plug cut outs. The plug are probably from the installation of a kitchen sink faucet and/or soap dispenser.

I use stainless steel "stones" now and then. If you want your good sipping whiskey cold but not diluted with ice, that is the way to go.

At 1 1/8th inch diameter, they remind me of rock cores taken with a small core drill. Then someone cut them into these disks. KT is pretty certain that the granite id is correct. Certainly would make a unique gift to a drinking buddy!
