The story behind the first metal detector

I first heard about this in a presentation given a few years ago. The speaker made just a passing comment but I was intrigued and started researching it. The more I read and learned the more fascinating the story became and soon became my favorite story of America’s past.
It’s the story of the people and events that led to the hobby we all enjoy.
