I did a house that dates back to the late 1800's today. One of the things I found was this odd button. It rang up like silver on the NOX (27-29), but I don't think it is silver. It was about 8" deep, near the house. As you can see, it is about the size of a quarter, has an "S" with what looks like a cherub or baby wrapped up in it. I have never seen anything like it before, and was curious if anyone knows anything about it. Thanks in advance for your help.

That cherub and monogram letter motif seems to have been a popular during the "Belle Epoque" around the turn of the last century, especially in France. I couldn't rummage up any button images out of Google, but here's a fair selection of French post cards, often sent as Valentines: https://www.pinterest.com/alicgiese/cherub-letters/

I imagine that French vogue didn't take long to hop the Atlantic. I'd guess the button might be from about 1910ish, give or take a decade. Maybe one of those button collector groups affiliated with The National Button Society could better ID it? See: www.nationalbuttonsociety.org/resources.html
