For beach hunting, including getting in the water, I would recommend the HeadHunter Wader (not the Pirate) by DetectorPro. A fine unit with very good depth for a VLF type machine. It'll work in the dirt too.
I wouldn't store any detector or any sensitive piece of electronics where it was subjected to temperature extremes. In the case of the Wader, the coil/cable/headset packs into a very small volume. The rod can go in the wing storage area.
