This is an old find I made years ago but the recent post on the forum about the two silver pieces dated 1918 and naming a famous battle in France aroused my memory of this find. I was working a curbstrip in front of a house on West Davis St. in Burlington NC back in the 80ties and found this ring. It was made from a French Two Frank coin. I had heard about these rings the soldiers would make on long sea voyages. They would hold the ring between their thumb and forefinger and tap the edges of the coin with a spoon until it was 1/4 inch wide or so. They would then drill out the middle and sand or file it smooth. The one I found is about a size 9 give or take a size or two. What is cool is that you can still make out most of the writing on the inside of the ring. I would have to consider this my best overall find. The coolest any way.
