My biggest problem with that incident was that it wasn't a typical case of "overbooking", it was that United wanted the seats to transfer a crew to another city. The incident was caused by lousy planning on United's part.
I think United should have been required to find seats for THEIR CREW on another airline rather than taking seats from paying passengers. If I had gotten the rough treatment and kicked off the plane, I would sue for United's entire executive bonus package, and the right to rename the airline to "United Crew Transfer and if we have room, Paying Passenger Airline".
