Default Pics of the finished lower stock and forestock

KT just got these painted this morning...perfect weather to get this done! Hopefully, His Majesty will be able to complete the upper portion of the stock later today....If so, it will be posted in this comment....then on to the barrels!

Pic 1 - lower portion of the stock. Pic 2 - lower portion of the forestock.

Default Now starting on the barrels!

The two barrels are shown in pic 1 ready to pattern, along with the grass template KT will reuse on the barrels.

Pic 2 shows the left side of both barrels patterned. Enjoy! It seems like presently the Castle weather is ideal drying conditions for KT was able to finish the stock and forearm this morning and they dried quickly enough so they could be moved (gently) to another spot to finish drying and KT got the barrels set up and one side painted before He goes to have a Royal Lunch! So obviously, if it does not rain today, KT will get the other side painted mid-afternoon!

Pic 3 shows the completion of the bottom of the barrels with the grass pattern, the upper was done right after KT came in from lunch (no pic).

Default Starting the clearcoat process......

Now both the stock/receiver and the forestock is ready to clear coat with matte polyurethane. Two very light coats is all that is necessary, just a few minutes apart.

The trick to this is to hang the piece so that the painter can back off and walk around putting on the light coats. Drying conditions are ideal presently so KT let the first coat dry about 5 minutes before putting on the 2nd coat. The two pictures are after the 2nd coat is applied, showing both sides of the stock/receiver....it will dry overnight before KT hangs the forestock and sprays it with 2 coats tomorrow morning.

Enjoy the pics. Both were taken with a flash, so the colors are slightly washed out...a bit more green and khaki intensity than shows.

Most welcome! Hopefully tomorrow’s weather will be as good as today’s was! If so, I should get the matte clear coat on the barrels!

Default Started coating the barrels this morning!

KT hung and put one coat of matte sealer on the .22LR barrel before going off for lunch, then upon returning, His Majesty put a second coat on. Now waiting for it to dry. By late afternoon, the .410 barrel will be ready for its first coat!

Also KT removed all the masking from the stock and forestock, but has taken no pictures of that. His Majesty wants to finish this project and then display the results in a final set of photos with each barrel mounted.

Enjoy this photo, taken just after the 2nd application of matte clear.

Thanks, Steve! The last coat was put on the .410 barrel about an hour ago, so it will be done drying for certain by late this evening!

Royal Thanks, Wolf-Dog! Everything is dry now and now within the Castle. All masking is removed and only one final task before assembling the unit(s), and photographing them, which will all be done Sunday afternoon!

Default Alrighty now, picture rich completion

This project started off with a plain jane black "stick" Rossi youth model .410 Shotgun and .22LR breakdown set, and KT carried everyone through the initial basecoat application, then grass pattern application and final matte clearcoat that hardens off the finish.

The first 2 pictures in this post are for GKL, who had earlier suggested KT put some type of identifying marks on the project, just incase the set was ever stolen. The Picture 1 shows the 4 pieces of the set, and Picture 2 shows a fluorescent blue circle with KT written inside each circle. These will fluoresce in both LW and SW UV, but is photographed in SW.

The rest of the pictures in this set are of the assembled shotgun at various locations....one a camo blanket, 2 pics with the .22LR barrel separate on KT's work table, and finally the shotgun leaning against the work table.

It took KT over a week simply due to lack of cooperation of the weather for several days....one needs low humidity warm days to do this painting outside for the paint to cure off in a timely fashion!

This gun set will now be broken down, carefully packed in its tote and stowed in the Royal Carriage should KT ever need it! KT hopes the Forum Members enjoyed this look into KT's hobby, and rest assured there are other "black stick" shotguns in KT's Royal Armory that eventually will be camo painted!

Enjoy the pictures!

Royal Thanks, partyofone! It was a fun project! There is another "black stick" single shot 12 gauge in the Royal Chariot presently, which this will replace. Sometime later this year, me thinketh would be a good time to start that project!

Glad to hear you enjoyed coming along on the project, Wolf-Dog! KT is pleased with the way it came out also. KT has another single shot breakover black stick 12 gauge that He likely will get to this fall!

You reminded KT of that picture of a camo painted truck….picture of 4 tires in a driveway!

KT did say camo painted, not invisible painted!
Royal thanks, CallMeGrey!
