I'm quoting out of "Confederate Saddles & Horse Equipment" by Ken R. Knopp. From page 66: "...The "C" bosses found on many of these bits or used as bridle rossettes are not typical British army but may well have been specially made for the Confederacy in England." That is pretty much a once in a life time find.

thanks for everyone's help. i know where i found it and will go back when i can.

The brass piece is a Union cavalry sword hanger. Where ever it is that you are hunting, hunt that thing to death. A nice confederate plate may be waiting for you.

i can't believe i've lived here 27 years and besides fishing the river for small mouth bass i never relic hunt it. i am retired now due to having seizures. i needed to exercise and use my time so i figured that relic hunting would help. everyone including my wife thinks it isn't much exercise. well let them feel my sore legs and body this morning after 3 hours of hunting yesterday.
thanks,

and now there are two.

5 foot from first rosette i found the second one. both about 5" deep. i can't believe this land has been i our family for as long as i can remember and i am just now relic hunting it.

I suggest you run out right now and buy a lottery ticket. Those are about as rare as teeth in a chicken. And you find two of them? I hate to think what else is on that land.

Holy smokes. Congratulations! Enjoy your retirement!

Surely this can be moved to the Mind-blowing Eye Popping folder. Both of those bit Confederate rosettes from the same horse, and possibly some more of the tack? Amazing.

found these today

not sure what some of these are or just junk. if anyone knows please chime in.

Circled object looks like a partial rack of trim gun nails.
