Todays challenge....what is this? A co-worker who knows I MD asked me if I knew what it was and my guess is a Chinese token, the crossed flags though makes me wonder if it was something more...anyone have a guess?

I believe it is a Coin from Chinese Hunan Province.. don't know the denomination but that may get you started

I just googled "Coin from Chinese Hunan Province" and found this:

It has coins close but not exact.

It is a neat coin and different than most Chinese coins found.
How did your friend get it?

There are some variations of the Shanzi coin as shown above. Your co-worker's coin is a later example closer to 1920. The link below has info and photos of it.

Note the characters match and the images on both sides are contained within a circle. The reference/catalog number is "Krause Y#303".

Holy smokes, you guys got that coin ID'd super fast! I'm glad I found this community as I'm sure I'll need your guys help quite a bit trying to figure out my finds. To the OP, that's an AWESOME find! I haven't found many old coins yet but I'm definitely interested in doing so! Hopefully you find some more like it!!
