Civil War era Virginia Button

I

irving

Found this button yesterday. It is backmarked "Wm H. Smith New York". Still has some guild on it. I was very pleased to find it, as it was the only thing I founs, other than some Spencer casings,

I was pleased, but was hunting by myself, so didn't do the dance. I was using a Tesoro Silver umax(for the first time). This is one sensitive little machine! I had to turn the discrimination up to nickel to use it, and then I still dug some rusty iron. But, it will find TINY brass items at deep depths. I think I'll use it instead of Explorer for a while...........Rv

Outstanding fine! Keep it up. Since i am from Virginia, may I ask what state ya found it in?

Very nice button with a great period backmark. It's civil war or before, I'll check my backmark book and get back with you on the mfg. date.

Good Job!

That's a great button and fairly rare. Easily worth several hundred. Here's a pic of an undug one for reference
