Out today and found a mystery item (at least to me.) about 8' down. Supposedly was a very early construction camp of sorts in the area.
It broke and I used a tiny piece of blue tack to hold it together for pictures.
Any ideas?

Thanks

I think it's a riviot. Maybe for leatherwork or denim. Maybe a button from buttonfly jeans.

If I'd seen this an hour ago I would have taken a photo of one of those. Just installed an original military leather sling on a 98 Mauser rifle. Mine went where the sling loops through the metal rifle sling swivel through 2 slots in the leather to join the loop together. It was rather difficult so sorry no photos. Anyway looked identical to yours, larger on one end than the other. Far as I can tell size comparison the same.

I have seen exactly what you're talking about. The depth at which this was was a little deeper that anything we have found in that field. So I don't "think" it's anything too modern.
