Cleaning Chains

I found a chain necklace today.... It was completely intact until i started playing with the clasp and it broke off. lol.

Anyone know how to clean something like this?

Also if anyone knows anyway to date these things by the clasp or something any info would be appriecitated...

What kind of chain is it? Gold, silver or ??? Are there any marks? How about a picture. Rob
 
I'm not sure what it's made of...Probally just junk.
The metal has a green discoloration to it.....

The pictures are not clear but it could be copper with a plated surface. It helps to use the macro setting on your camera. Rob
