Went out with a new friend today for about 2.5 hours. He agreed to let me and a guy that's from the local historical society tag along to a property that dates back to the 1700s. It was supposed to be a one time permission but as it turns out I actually know the land owner! He works in the same building as me, so hopefully I'll work it out so I can go back there.

I took the ACE 400 out in the field and hit some large iron, square nails, and about 4 modern rifle casings. But then I hit a rare, 1780s Vermont Copper! The kind with the crowned bust on the front and the draped seated bust on the back. Unfortunately it's too toasted to see the date anymore. But I'll take it!

Thanks! Went back to the field again yesterday for about 2.5 hours. Didn't find anything interesting but I cleaned out a lot of junk targets. I kept saying "You gotta dig the trash to dig the treasure" as I went. Since the filed is so huge I've decided to grid it out and search each grid back and forth and then diagonally. Hopefully this will make the daunting size of the filed more manageable when I go out next time.

Aha, see you should always nay-say and the treasure gods will smile their metallic smiles down upon you. Excellent find! Right before I hit my Vermont Copper I was thinking, "I'd like to dig at least one coin today. Heck, I'd take a zinc penny even. Just something round--" DINGDINGDING and there was the copper!
