So I found some ww2 shells, they have been fired but there is still something inside the shell. It has 2 holes in it. Looking at the headstamp I can read: 3AE DAQ V. I gues DAQ stands for Dominion Arsenal Quebec? But I have no idea what the other text means. Also I have no idea what it was used for. They where found at a possible bofor firing position or another anti air/artilerly gun probarly some mortars at the site to. So it might have to do something with that?

Are you sure it is DAQ and not DAC for Dominion Arsenal, in Quebec?

Are there two holes in the side of the cartridge (drill)?

the holes you are seeing are part of the primer. That case has a berdan primer, which is slightly different from the boxer primer we usually see with the single flash hole.

M1 carbine is a rimless cartridge, this one looks like it has a rim, check the diameter with a micrometer after its cleaned, that may help narrow down what size it is.

M1 carbine 30cal.

Hi All,

No,
It is Artillery - Percussion Primer (primer tube)
Tube (very small cartridge sometimes called a "primer") loaded into the lock attached to the outside the breech provides propellant ignition.
Percussion primer used with the ignition mechanism of several artillery pieces.
