Hello,

I was hunting an area close to a local colonial plantation and found this button. I've been working this area for years with my AT pro and have found large cents and half dollars but, using my new CTX 3030, I found this. History has George Washington spending the 4th of July in the late 1700's at this property. The back looks to say "Double Gilt" and it appears to have a fig branch. Any info is appreciated.

They usually say DOUBLE YELLOW GILT or DOUBLE GOLD GILT. Flat buttons with backmarks typically date to around 1800 to 1830's and disappear pretty quickly as two-piece buttons became popular.

Most flat buttons don’t have !!!! on them looks early 1800s to me

From what I found it looks to be a late eighteenth century. 1785-1800... "G" model.
