I looked back and tried to find where these were ID'd before but no luck. Can any of you remind me?

Looks like a drift pin or punch. Used to align holes in metal structures . Then drive it on through the hole. It Is Kinda Small though.

To me the center part looks to be made of wood? Not knowing the weight... the size and general shape of the item reminds me of an antique fishing "pencil" float?

Albeit is so tiny that this is a far fetched guess.
But, it appears that the item has brass tips and a wood center and the nearest thing I've seen to match this description was a connector used to splice some sort of rod together.
In this case maybe a rifle or pistol cleaning rod.
My experience with this sort of thing, although quite larger, was used to connect the center pole sections of a two man Army tent together.
