Hi there, I'm a complete noob, but I've wanted to get into detecting for a long time. Maybe it's my mid-life crisis.
I'm frantically researching before purchasing my first detector, and this site has been quite helpful (at least in facilitating information overload!).

it depends on what type of detecting you will be doing. Going for gold in your country, then get the best gold detector you can afford.
going just for old coins? get the best coin shooter, something like CTX 3030.
doing all type of detecting including lake and ocean beach hunting. Minelab Equinox 800.
Take your time and do your research. Take it from me. Don't rush in and buy the detector that is not the best for your type of hunting.
