I thought June was great with the two 1723 Hibernia coins being my oldest coins to date. Well yesterday I went to a local school for a short hunt and my very first hole dug produced yet another older coin making it my oldest to date. It is a William III half penny. The coin is pretty worn with the reverse being smooth therefore I cannot precisely date it. William III was King of England, Ireland and Scotland from 1689 until 1702! It produced a few other nice items as well as the usual clad.
Not a bad dig for a modern schoolyard!
