M925 vs 925 sterling

I have a sterling ring that says M925 is there a difference between that and 925

Not sure, never heard of M925. Is the M right next to the 925? Maybe the M is a maker's mark. Picture would help.
 
I would think maker's mark too, some manufacturers, especially the more expensive ones, put a stamp on their jewellery which represents their company.

Not really sure but I think I saw somewhere it was Mexico.

My vote is sterling 925, M makes no difference and is a makers mark, or location, hard to say!
