I ran into a patch of these today. Driving the pinpointer crazy. I've found them many times in the past too. I feel like I should know what they are... but i don't. What are they?

Look like .22 blanks for a starter pistol. Some power nailers use them, too.

Thanks. I knew they were common and obvious. Just couldn't place them.
 
They're a disappointing waste of time and energy, in my opinion. I found similar ones already fired, by running tracks/sports fields. They would be starter pistol rounds.

Yes. They wasted my time. They gave off a bouncy high tone that registered deeper than thet really were.
