Found this iron "wedge" on the surface in south central VA on a timber farm. On one side I think I see "D E I (or K) C..." and on the other side "55 MS" (or M5). There is more inscription that I can not make out. Looks like the wide end has been hammered on. Any ideas? I thought maybe farm implement related, but the inscription makes me second guess that.

Will put it through the electrolysis tank...

I agree with firemanphob. The M5 means it is for a #5 Morse taper.

thanks for the information guys. I was not familiar with a wedge key but after googling, that looks like what I have. I did put it through my electrolysis tank and it came out very nice however it lost detail in the letters so was not of any help for further identification.
