I found 3 old buttons on the same day earlier this month. Two were in the same front yard and the third just a short two-three blocks away.
I am having a hard time pinning down an age for these two buttons. I originally thought civil war period but after more and more research I'm leaning towards post civil war. The button with the eagle is without a doubt a US Naval Petty Officers coat button. The single star button I thought Texas Militia button from civil war. Please help. Also pictured for your enjoyment is a 89th regiment button believed to be from the War of 1812.

Thanks, Rick

Really could use some better pictures (especially of the back) but, from what I can see, the first 2 are civilian blazer-type buttons. The eagle button is a very much copied Navy button. Most all buttons with rusted out iron backs will be civilian buttons.

I tried to copy you a picture but it didn't work. Look up the British 89th Regiment of Foot. They had one that looked exactly like yours. But I make no opinion as to originality.
