Found this in 6 inches of pebbles on the coast near Pigeon Point California. (North of Santa Cruz)
Its magnetic and definitely iron.
The grain pattern is puzzling though.
There are old mooring spikes buried on the beach from the past.

I know its not valuable just wonder what that grain structure is.
Thanks.

Thanks Eugene.
It obviously has an iron oxide crust with sand fused to it.
The grainy metal is more platinum colored.
The thing didn't have a magnetic signature (tested by compass) but it is strongly attracted to a magnet.
It IS mostly iron for sure.
I thought it could be rusted cable (un-twisted) but the color difference is odd.

Nickel Iron Meterorite:
Here is a picture of an actual meteorite.

My object, seen above, has the color but not the same structure as this example.
Its interesting.

Right on Taz!
That looks like an exact match.
Might have been part of a chain.
Whalers and steam ships once used this cove.
Could be wrought iron from them.

Thanks again.
