Do you think this ear ring stone has any value?

Found this in a volleyball sand court. Probably glass? Are there any previous stones that are black?

If it is in a precious metal than you might have a chance but if there are no markings on the metal it is probably nothing.

Here are my list of could be's...
glass
jet
onyx
smoky quartz

I agree, if the mounting is junk metal it's probably the first one.

Found one similar, was costume jewelry, betting yours is too... but get it tested, only way to know for sure.

The only dark gem that might fit this image is a midnight blue sapphire. Such sapphires are considered low quality, at best... about the only way to tell is to hardness test it

If you have scratches on the surface, it's probably not sapphires. Sapphires are 9 on the hardness scale. A steel nail is 6.5 to 7... Meaning if you drag the the pointed end of the nail across the top of the gem, and it scratches it... it's not sapphire.

Cheers,

Skippy
