Most detectors come with a very narrow piece of Velcro to affix the cable to the shaft just above the coil.
if the wire is allowed to move the detector would pick that up as a signal.
But after a few trips to the beach sand in that skinny strip causes a lot of holding power to be lost.
any big box hardware will have wider strips. with the wideness comes excess length so you may need to trip a bit off.
But it really holds the cable well. The tiny strap is also pictured for scale.
