Possible cartridge

I found this on a 1700-1800's site. It appears to be some type of cartridge casing but the walls are thicker than any I have previously found. It appears to have wood in the bottom and the inside of casing is groved. It appears to have a mark from a firing pin on the end. Thanks in advance.

Almost looks like one of those trash spikes. The firing pin would be where the spike was and broke off.

not to sure about trash spike, I haven't found anything on this piece of land that is from recent times.

Kind of what I'm thinking. Does not resemble any cartridge case I'm familiar with.

Roughly the same dimensions as the ram rod cap from my .50 cal muzzle loader..
I would have to say yeah, ram rod cap.. ?!
