So, I've been thinking that it's hard to detect some homesites b/c of the tall grass and other vegetation that grows up around the homesite. Also, one guy called to tell me the farmer had plowed a certain field. However, it actually made the site "rougher" in the sense that I could not swing the detector evenly across the surface of the soil.

If we can identify a coin vs can by raising our detector 4, 6, 8+ inches, then detecting even in four-inch, thick, laid-over grass could be problematic, right? (at least with an AT Pro?)

The depth meter is for distance from coil, not distance under dirt.

So if your 4” off the ground, that’s 4” of depth lost.

Ok. I thought there was an issue related to the amount of air space between the coil and the ground. You're saying the only issue is the higher you hold it, the less depth you'll be covering in the soil?
