So, I’m house-sitting this week, and got permission to practice my md’ing skills in the yard while my friend is away. Her grandparents built the place in the ‘30s, and not much has been done to the property since then. (It was an orange grove before then.)
I’m getting the hang of recognizing the tones, picking out a nickel versus a bottle cap. I’ve only searched a little bit, but found a couple of nifty things, including two wheat backs 1931 and 1941) and a cool Chinese cash coin. From what I’ve found, it looks like it dates around 1736-95. Definitely the oldest thing I’ve found so far! And the Simplex is darn sensitive- it was picking up tiny screws six inches or more deep. Took me a while to figure out what it was finding. I think I’m going to like this machine a lot
