Do you have some favorite song lyrics? One that has special meaning to you, or that is just so well written you want to tell someone about it? Let's start a thread to capture some of the best (or worst, if they have meaning to you!)

To start it out, thought it would be appropriate to begin with a lyric that is beautiful in it's own right but also is tailor-made for the metal detecting community

Yes I am a pirate, two hundred years too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothing to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate

- Jimmy Buffett, A Pirate Looks at Forty

Credence Clearwater Revival, Bad Moon Rising

"There's a bathroom on the right"

Of course this is incorrect, one of the most misquoted lyrics ever and yet it can relate to metal detecting very well as is...plus even a deeper more important lyric to us older prostrate troubled members.

I like the start of this Pink Floyd song - talking about how so much time is wasted when we are young, then as we age we realize how valuable time really is...

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

Pink Floyd, Time

This is the last verse of The March of Cambreadth, by Heather Alexander.

Dawn has broke, the time has come,
Move Your Feet to a Marching Drum
We'll win the war and pay the toll,
We'll Fight as One in Heart and Soul
Midnight mare and blood red roan,
Fight to Keep this Land Your Own
Sound the horn and call the cry,
How Many of Them Can We Make Die!

I was a bayman like my father was before
Can't make a living as a bayman anymore
There ain't much future for a man who works the sea
But there ain't no island left for islanders like me

-Billy Joel : The Downeast "Alexa"

Well it was Gatlinburg in mid July
I'd just hit town and my throat was dry
I thought I would stop and have myself a brew.
At an old saloon on a street of mud,
there at a table, dealing stud,
sat the dirty, mangy dog that named me Sue.

Johnny Cash: "A boy named Sue"

Can I tell you something? Got to tell you one thing.
If you expect the freedom, that you say is yours,
prove that you deserve it, help us to preserve it,
or being free will just be, words and nothing more.

Oh, the intergalactic laxative,
Will get you from here to there.
Relieve you and believe me,
Without a worry or care.
If shitting is your problem
When you're out there in the stars,
Oh, the intergalactic laxative
Will get you from here to Mars.

Wherever man has conquered,
On the quest for frontiers new,
(Da da da da)
I'm glad that he's always had to do
The number one and two.
It makes it all so ordinary,
Just like you and me,
To know the greatest heroes,
They had to !!!! and pee.

I'm looking over my dead dog Rover, that I over ran with the mower.

One leg is missing the tail is gone, another leg is scattered all over the lawn

No use explaining the legs remaining, cause their by the cellar door.

I'm looking over my dead dog Rover, that I over ran with the mower

This song means a lot to me as my dad really liked it and we played it at his funeral. Simple lyrics, but beautiful. Louis singing is just the best

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you

I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world

Georgie
Writer(s): Gaither W. Carlton, Doc Watson

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJaKQXoAFiw

As I walked over London bridge
One misty morning early
I heard a fair young maiden say
Lord spare me the life of Georgie
Go saddle me up my milk white steed
And bridle him so gaily
Then ride away to the king´s high court
And plead for the life of Georgie"

So she rode all day and she rode all night
Til she was wet and weary
Then combing back her long yellow hair
She plead for the life of Georgie
She pulled out a purse all filled with gold
Just like you've never seen many
And she said young lawyers fee yourselves
And plead for the life of Georgie
But Georgie rode up and he plead for himself
He says I never murdered any
But I stole sixteen of the king´s best steeds
And sold them in Romany
Then the oldest law at the bar
Says "George I´m sorry for you,
But your own confession condemns you to die,
May the lord have mercy upon you

If I was over on yonder hill,
Where kisses I´ve had a plenty
With my sword and my pistol by my side
I´d fight for the life of Georgie
As Georgie was walking through the streets
He bid farewell to many
Then he bid farewell to his own true love
Which grieved him worse than any
Georgie was hanged with a golden cord
Just like you´ve never seen many
For he was a member of the royal race
And loved by a virtuous lady

I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's
And his hair was perfect

-Warren Zevon, "Werewolves of London"

That was the first song my daughter sang, at age three, in the car, my wife and
i hear "awoooo, awoooo from the back seat. Good memories

I know a lot of song lyrics, but a few are "favorite"

I just forgot who recorded this, but the amazing thing is on the B side of the 45, it plays completely backwards.

they're coming to take me away, ha ha
ho, ho, he, he, to the funny farm,
where life is beautiful all the time
and I'll be happy to see those nice young men
in their clean white coats, and they're coming to take me away, ha, ha.
