Found this bone handled pocket knife today. VERY rusty. Would like to try electrolysis on it but worried about damaging the handle. Also found a pearl handled one in the same condition.

Anybody cleaned something like this? Any suggestions or advice will help.

that's a nice knife!
unfortunately i'm afraid that almost ANY kind of cleaning attempt is likely going to do more harm than good. :(
rather than electrolysis, i think i would try that EvapoRust stuff and give it an overnight soak. that would be the most gentle method you could give it.

I'd try the electrolysis. I don't think it'll harm the bone. IF, you don't use an acidic electrolyte. Use the washing soda mixture. Use a low setting and watch carefully. It is indeed a nice knife. Put a dab of wax or clear fingernail polish over the pins thru the handle so they don't get eaten up and let the bone fall off.
