So today I was short on time for detecting and decided I’d test the water in a spot I’ve been eyeballing for a while now. I get there and right off the bat I find a 1916 wheat penny! I get a little excited cause I don’t have a lot of areas in my neck of the woods that haven’t been hit already. Immediately after finding that I find two more wheat cents from the teens! I tell myself this is gonna be the day I find my alluded barber silver! The only silver coin out of 1900’s nickels, dimes, and quarters that I haven’t found. Right after thinking that I sweep across the yard and a come across a beautiful high tone that’s deep. I dig it out and there’s my 1900 Barber quarter that had been alluding me this past year. Not in the best condition but I’m stoked! Crazy I told myself I was gonna find it then it pops up very next find. I spent the rest of the day digging wheat pennies and a 1920 Buffalo nickel. All in line for the home that was burnt down in 1922. There was barely any trash in the yard. The only thing one could consider trash is all the wheat pennies littered through the yard and I’ll take those any day over can slaw. I dug 9 wheat pennies, the buffalo and the barber quarter in under two hours. I’ll be going back tomorrow hopefully for the rest of the silver! Best day I’ve had since the gold gilded confederate button I found a few weeks ago! (Edit - By the way I haven’t had time to take a tooth pick to the wheat cents yet so they look even crustier than they should! I was just excited to get this posted!)

Great hunt, congrats on the Barber quarter, worn but still beautiful. The wheats and Buff are nice saves as well. HH Mark

Very nice finds! That lock plate is pretty cool too! Any mfg marks or dates on it?

No dates or anything on the lock plate but I went again today and found some cool stuff! The suspender clip has a paton date of March 14, 1871, 5 more wheat pennies, an Indian head penny, musket ball and some other little items!

One of those pennies looks like a steel penny but it's probably not or you would have mentioned it. Anything with a date and writing like the old suspender clip really makes it special. Congratulations.

It sounds like you had a couple of pretty fun hunts! Cool finds!

I did! It’s fun doing the long research and it paying off!

Now that you mention that I did think one was a steel penny when I pulled it out. I still haven’t cleaned them all so I’ll go back and finish those up soon and let you know if it is! As for the suspender clip it ended up being on of my favorite finds and went straight to my shadow box! I also went again and got a crusty 1888 v nickel, Indian head penny, a 1942 nickel (unfortunately not silver) plus some older foreign coins! (Edit - it is indeed a steel cent, first I’ve ever dug!)

Very nice hunting there. I would expect you will make a few more trips to that spot. Look forward to the next post of goodies from there, good luck!

awesome! What year is it?

Just a regular ole 1944 steel cent! Nothing special! Jk it’s a 1943, I’m not that lucky!

Definitely, will probably be the first place I return as soon as I get a chance!

3 B’s! Button Barber and Buff! Nice hunting!

Thanks! It’s definitely a good day for me! I have found some outstanding finds in my year or so hunting but it’s a different feeling when you’ve done hard research and it pays off with a bunch of goodies to research and clean!
