I posted this under a different topic but I’m also listing the link here because everyone on this thread is always so helpful. My friend found this in an area where he had found civil war buttons in the past. Could this be civil war related ?

I doubt it is a military pen with all that rust. Maybe civilian.

Military buttons and insignias were brass, which doesn't rust. I did find a set of Air Force cadet insignias that had the silver platting starting to peel though.
