Found this little guy today, pulled up from an old gold panning section in the mountains of Northern California. (Located very close to the original California trail)

Not sure if it’s a cap to a fancy bottle/vile of medicine, an ornate garment accessory, or a protective cap to something??? Have literally used all resources available to me, and nevertheless have found diddly squat.

Hoping y’all can tune in and slap meh with some info.

Composition:

The interior seems to be copper, looks to be plated with brass, or something similar to that pigment. Not sure if the white around the “w” is enamel, or paint. Tis’ not magnetic.

Have found other relics in the same area ranging from the late 1800’s-1960’s. (If that helps)

Any help is appreciated!!

You guys are an immense wealth of knowledge.. Hours of failed research, and yet, y’all solved the mystery in a matter of minutes. (Perhaps need to ditch my preferred search engine)

Indeed, tied to the Westinghouse appliance company, but after a days worth of investigation, I have yet found the product the nameplate was assigned to. Seems the company was extravagantly diverse in the fields of which they held their forte. (Making rifles for the Russians during World War I, to hotdog cookers, jewelry, and helmets during World War II)

Can’t imagine it’d be a cheap throw away ring for the kids, the tails that protrude off the sides don’t feel, or look structurally sound enough to hold up for the job. Especially due to the fact that the cap is hollowed out and would be ridiculously uncomfortable to wear. (Wouldn’t think they’d make a ring like that back in those days, regardless whether or not it was for an adult or child. Let’s face it, the toys in those days for children were built better than the vehicles we drive off the lot in current times and would certainly last a lot longer….. lol)

As for the nameplate, I’ve given up on what apparatus it belonged to, but at least i have a company and a date range to pool from. It’s rather intriguing speculating what appliance they would’ve rucked through the mountains where I dug it up. Highly doubt it was a DIY UHAUL extravaganza, and the piece happen to fall off a transported fridge, oven, or fan. Personally, I think it was off a kettle, or some other cooking appliance, possibly a world war relic? (Looks to fit the bill, in my honest opinion)

However, the people mining here didn’t have a lot, and carefully looked after every bit of inventory within their possession. Who knows, maybe they drug a fridge down to the creek to keep they’re food out of the traffic of wildlife, or simply used it for other storage purposes. Either way, it be a Westinghouse nameplate and that’s enough light shed to keep this Detectorist happy.

Thanks to all that commented, can’t begin to express my gratitude.

New to all of this, and if there’s anything I can do to help aid this prospering community, let me know.

Cheers!! Happy hunting!! 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
