I have a few fresh water beaches close to where I live so I thought I would do some beach MDing. I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on a sand scoop so I decided to make my own. I bought a livestock feed scoop from my local farm supply store for about $10 and drilled a number of 7/16" holes in it. I may add some more holes if I find these aren't enough (I can always add... would be hard to take away)I added a paracord wrap on the handle to aid in gripping. (The bare metal was narrow and slick) Hopefully this will do nicely since I don't do a lot of beach detecting.

Thanks for the advice... I will add some holes in the bottom. I just didn't want to get too carried away with the holes. Our beaches are mostly sand.

I will probably stay in the dry sand. The lake we have here is a Army Corps of Engineers lake and is primarily for flood control. There are times of the year where main parts of the beaches that are normally under water are dry....so... I can detect these areas when dry.
