I dug this doorknob at a 1900s house. The first two pictures are after spraying it off with a hose. It's pretty heavy, so I assume it's brass. I then got the idea to tumble it.

I wasn't sure how well it would work considering it's a smaller tumbler and there wouldn't be tons of movement/tumbling inside with the aquarium gravel. I filled it about 1/3 with gravel, halfway with water and a drop of dish soap.

It came out GREAT after about two hours. I'm going to see if the property owner wants it as a decorative piece.

That really did turn out nice, TS! I’ve got a few larger brass/copper items that I haven’t tumbled for the same reasons - I just assumed there wouldn’t be enough agitation/motion to be effective. This inspires me to give it a shot anyway - if it fits, it tumbles!

It cleaned up nice.

Thanks!

Thanks! At the least, I thought it was going to take many more hours to get into the details.

TS awesome find. Blow your eardrums out ? I love ornate old hardware. Don't find a lot but the last house I did gave up a cool skeleton key lock escutcheon and a fancy cabinet latch. HH Mark
