I made this floating sifter. It weighs less than 1 lb. It consists of two 1/2" flexible hard PVC pipes, each joined by a coupler. The bottom pvc holds the plastic mesh screen(hardware cloth) attached to the pvc with 60 small cable ties. The other pvc piece was installed inside the foam noodle to give it rigidity. The plastic hardware cloth is doubled over for greater strength. Both pvc couplers and the noodle are silicone sealed against water and sand intrusion. This sifter is metal free and detector friendly. It is about 14" on the inside diameter with a 4" wall height.
