Had the idea of combining both hobbies, the thought being that we could bury caches in and around the areas we live, then post the gps coordinates in a new section of the forum (thats if the administrators felt there was enough interest). I realise you would need to buy a handheld GPS unit which I have done recently. £60 from Amazon free delivery. Hoping this would bring a new aspect to MDing. Here is an explanation of Geocaching http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geocaching. What do you think.

From what I understand geocaching is quite the rage now and has been for quite some time in most states. Even the Nat'l and State Parks have contributed to the program with geocaching sites on their properties. Unfortunately, you cannot use a metal detector in these parks. I could be mistaken, but I thought you were not allowed to use a MD while geocaching either.

I understand what you are saying, but what I am suggesting is a move away from the geocaching principle, and doing it our way and buring the cashe so that we can search for the cashe with our MDs. Plus the fact that we can bury things in areas that dont have any restrictions.

Thanks for your replies what geocaching do is there own hobby there is nothing to stop us doing our own thing and expanding our hobby our own way, if we enjoy it then that is what is important. Be happy enjoy life and get outdoors, we dont need to place restrictions on enjoying ourselves.

KDWP Geocaching

Through my interest in going to Cedar Bluff Reservoir to look for my ring, I have found that the Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks has a geocaching contest, if anyone is interested.

If anyone in the area wants to start, I have plans on being at the Cedar Bluff Reservoir the weekend of March 7th, 2009 to look for my ring. I thought it might be an interesting way to get some of the area md'ers together for an off-season outing at the lake. Come look for my ring, beach comb for items left behind by other lake goers, primitive camping, search for the two geocaching locations at the park, good fishing lake, bird watching, etc.
