I found an old boy scout pocket knife. I would love to put it in my electrolysis tank, but it has brass bolsters. Will the brass deteriorate before the rust dissolves?

Just go slow and watch what's happening to it. Take it out and inspect it often. Either way you look at it I assume it's worthless trash now so what do you have to lose?

I suppose that is the only option I have. I just kinda wondered if anyone else has used electrolysis on something similar.

I checked on it this evening. All the blades are now moving free, I am gonna leave it over night and try to figure out how to preserve the handles. The scales seem to be plastic, but they shrink up when they dry out. Maybe they are horn or shell. One scale is a very pale opaque grayish blue and has the boy scout emblem underneath. The other side is dark brown or black.
