Durabilty of push button detectors

Got 8 years out of my old garrett GTI 1500. Everything went at once the coil, headphone jack and the pushbutton pad.

Nope..!! 7 years with a whites XLT & 6 years with a minelab explorer, both push button & never had a problem with either...

Im a bit concerned of how long these last. Anyone ever have problems
with the buttons wearing out?

I've got a White's Eagle Spectrum that I bought in 1989. It is still working great. I used it one afternoon this last weekend to find 20 coins. All of the buttons still work fine on it.

1991 Whites Eagle II I bought new. Its still my main detector and still finds silver at 7 inches. Found 3 gold rings in November. Everything works great.

push pads

knobs, can not be beat sooner or later push pads give out. I have heard of more than one x terra pads go flat and for the money i perfer knobs but the mfg perfers push pads this means more repairs for mfg.

don't think so. i've had my x70 since it came out and it still works like new. push pad controls hold up just fine unless like someone said. they get abused.

Anything can break........it's the luck of the draw.

I love my Tesoros but I've had to have two repairs.
Outlaw pinpoint/retune button and disc pot on Mojave
Have a 10+ year old ExplorerII that works like a champ,

Just have to keep them clean and hope for the best

pushpads

Push pads wear out in a short time span compared to knobs. Just my opinion, been in the business for 25 years and i'm not the only electronic specialists that has seen these problems,We have way more repair business since push pads came out than we did with knobs. Although i hope all of you have a nice long detector life with out these problems,Jmo.

The problem with knobs is that most don't use a locking mechanism of any sort to stop them from changing settings on accident. I suspect that is why most md manufacturers have moved away from knobs and gone to push buttons.

As a side note, I have had a Ace 250 for over ten years now, never had an issue with the buttons. AT Pro for 5 years, also never a problem. HH and GL
